Hello, Haddonfield community! My name is Dr. Carmen Henderson. Some of you may know me as the former Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant (LDT-C) for elementary grades. It is with great excitement that I will serve Haddonfield School District as the Director of Special Education, as of July 1, 2020. I am looking forward to my continued work within the Haddonfield community in this new capacity.

I have over 15 years of experience in education. Those years have been spent as a consultant, Child Study Team chairperson, LDT-C Program Coordinator, researcher, teacher, LDT-C, professor, and owner of an Educational Consulting company. I earned my Doctor of Education in Special Education Leadership at Gwynedd Mercy University, Master of Arts in Teaching at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Certificate of Graduate Studies in Learning Disabilities at Rowan University.

Over the years, I have served many types of student populations in a variety of settings. Those experiences have allowed me to see the strengths in every single student I have served and to envision an optimal education plan that fosters his/her development.  My knowledge base in equitable pedagogy is extensive and lends itself well to serving students who receive general and special education.  The work I do for children and families is consequential and gratifying.  Nelson Mandela said, “The true character of a society is revealed in how it treats its children.” Every day of my life I give everything I have in me to the children I serve.  I am grateful for each day I get to do this work and thankful that the community has entrusted me to continue (with my colleagues) to develop Haddonfield’s educational landscape.

With regards,

Dr. Carmen Henderson, Ed.D., LDT-C, NCED
